China Vanke Co Ltd said it won an auction to buy the equity interests and creditors' rights of companies holding assets including land for 55.1 billion yuan. The companies involved were subsidiaries of Guangdong International Trust & Investment which became China's first non-bank financial institution to enter bankruptcy, back in 1999. The auction was the first to use an exchange platform to dispose of property as part of a legal procedure. The principal assets involve 16 land parcels in prime districts of Guangzhou. China Vanke plans to develop the land into residential property, commercial property, hotels and offices.

The Harbin Wanda City International Hotel Cluster held its grand opening. Located in Harbin Wanda City, the grand openings of Wanda Vistin Harbin, together with Wanda Real Resort Harbin and Crowne Plaza Harbin Songbei took place. Wanda Hotels & Resorts currently owns and operates 106 hotels in China. Harbin Wanda City is the fifth featured Wanda resort hotel cluster. The Harbin Wanda City Hotel Cluster features a Russian royal courtyard design and unique charms of Oriental Moscow. This is part of the biggest modern tourism complex in Northeast China including an outdoor theme park, the world's biggest indoor skiing court, indoor ice rink and movie park, enjoying a prime location in Harbin New District, only a 35 minute drive from Harbin Taiping International Airport. The hotel cluster is in the western part of Wanda City, next to Wanda Mall. Wanda Vista Harbin includes 252 rooms and suites, Wanda Realm has 395 rooms and suites, including 22 themed rooms for families with children; while Crowne Plaza Harbin Songbei is managed by IHG.

The 362 room Shangri-La Hotel, Yiwu opened on June 24th in the 52 story mixed use Yiwu World Trade Centre, the tallest building in Zhejiang Province. The tower is comprised of commercial space, apartments and shopping, and is located in the epicenter of the city's business district and adjacent to the Yiwu International Commodity City. The property includes 136 serviced apartments located from levels 9 to 38 in the building. Three hotel restaurants, more than 3,880 square meters of event space, a spa, gym, indoor heated swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam rooms are the amenities offered. The Shangri-La Hotel, Yiwu is the first in the city to feature an elevator large enough to transform automobiles directly to the ballroom.

Four Seasons Hotel Macao launched their renovated luxurious guest rooms. The hotel started a guest room renovation project last year, featuring a new aesthetic approach fusing classic and contemporary elements. The concept preserves the hotel's original essence. The renewed rooms include the signature Four Seasons Bed.

Macau Roosevelt on Cotai in Macau, unofficially opened, bringing 368 more rooms to the city's supply. The hotel looks out over the Macau Jockey Club's horserace track and across to neighboring Hengqin Island. It calls itself the only 5 star lifestyle hotel in Macau and Macau's first true party palace and chic retreat. The hotel was set to open in the second quarter but now is aiming for an official opening in late July, hoping to get approval to have a casino open there in mid-July.

Paradise Entertainment entered into a letter of intent with China Star Entertainment to buy Hotel Lan Kwai Fong, a five star hotel and casino located on the Macau Peninsula. The HK$2.38 billion deal will see Paradise acquire three companies that currently own and operate the property – Most Famous Enterprises Limited, Exceptional Gain Profits Limited and Charming Era Investment Limited. Hotel Lan Kwai Fong has 209 guest rooms, restaurants, retail outlets and a spa.

Shinta Manin Hotels rebranded its two boutique properties in the historic town of Siem Reap in Cambodia on July 1st. The adjacent properties are located in the leafy French Quarter of the city between the Royal Gardens and vibrant Old Market area, 15 minutes from the UNESCO World Heritage Temples of Angkor Wat. The Shinta Mani Resort reopened its doors as Shanti Mani Shack on July 1, completed a new entrance opposite the Royal Gardens. The courtyard style resort's 62 rooms and 2 Junior Suites showcase different design features. There are two brand new Executive Suites with full length balconies and the swimming pool also had a makeover. The Shinta Mani Club has rebranded as Shinti Mani Angkor. The upscale boutique property showcases 39 contemporary designed rooms and public spaces in a Khmer-inspired design. The Shinta Mani Spa offers a range of treatments based on traditional Khmer herbs and healing rituals.

The Crowne Plaza Christchurch has opened, offering 204 rooms, a new café, bar and restaurant and four event spaces. The return of the brand to the city is a significant milestone for the owners of the former office building and InterContinental Hotels Group. MC Christchurch Holdings said the former Crowne Plaza Christchurch had a loyal following among Cantabrians and that was one of the main reasons they want to bring the brand back to the city. Victoria Square in Christchurch should be completed early next year and construction of the nearby Convention Center should be done within three years which will make the hotel an even more attractive proposition for corporate, domestic and international visitors.

Ramada Suites Albany has officially opened on Auckland's North Shore. The 66 room property is Wyndham Hotel Group's fifth new opening in New Zealand in just over two years and is the first major accommodation development for the North Shore region in more than six years. Occupancy for the new property, just welcoming its first guests weeks ago, regularly exceeds 80% during the week. Ramada Suites Albany offers a mix of studio, one and two bedroom apartments. The property is conveniently located across the road from Albany Bus Station's Park n Ride.

Brisbane's hotel market is set to continue its significant expansion with the Alcyone Hotel Residences, scheduled to open on August 14th. The property is located at Portside Hamilton, named after the brightest star in the constellation of Taurus, and is owned by Citimark Properties. The hotel features 105 contemporary, spacious apartments, ranging from a 60 square meter one bedroom, one bath unit up to a 78 sqm two bedroom, two bath.

Dusit Thani Bangkok, the flagship hotel of Thailand-based Dusit International, will close in April 2018. The new Dusit Thani Bangkok will form part of a new mixed use development being built in partnership with Central Pattana PLC. Alongside the hotel, the project will feature residences, retail areas, office spaces and large green space.

Cachet Hospitality Group named Kimy Chen, Wouter Banning and Jitsak Lim-Pakornkul as key executives to help the company move forward as it expands its collection of lifestyle hotels and resorts in the Asia region. Kimy Chen is president of Southeast Asia. She helped grow the CHG brand in greater China, having successfully negotiated the acquisition of JIA Shanghai and other high profile projects. Wouter Andre Banning was named VP of operations Southeast Asia. Banning was GM of The Imperial Heritage and The Orchard Wellness & Health Resort in Malaysia. Jitsak Lim-Pakornkul was named VP of brand marketing, Southeast Asia. He was previously with Starwood Hotels and Resorts.

AccorHotels New Zealand announced Kerrie Hannaford has been appointed as the new director of sales & marketing, New Zealand, Fiji, and French Polynesia, based in Auckland. Hannaford replaced Sonya Rossiter who recently relocated to AccorHotels Singapore Office in a nearly created role, joining the AccorPlus team.

Korea resorts operator Aju Hotel Silicon Valley has paid $64 million for the Sainte Claire Hotel, now known as Westin San Jose in San Jose, CA. Aju Hotels and Resorts is a developer and operator of hotels in South Korea and the Bay Area. The seller was SCH Hotel, an affiliate of Wolff Urban Development, a firm controlled by developers Keith Wolff and Lew Wolff. The partnership paid $17 million for the 171 room hotel back in 2011. This is the second known hotel purchase by Aju in the Bay Area. In 2015 they paid $53 million for the 354 room Holiday Inn in San Jose.
